This is one of those bad New Year's resolutions that I just keep breaking. It's hard for me to write on a regular basis due to laziness and all the other crap I do in my life. It's very easy to justify skipping most responsibilities so I can game just a little longer. Work is stressful and thus I allow myself to play LoL, DOTA2, Tetris until 2am.
If I allow myself to be held back by such terrible excuses, I don't know how far I'll progress in life. I've done a lot this year, and I believe that there's a lot more to go. My communication ability has improved greatly over the last few years, but without a little bit of work this is going to stagnate. I've already done that for 4 years, let's not go back to that. Good luck on the "reading and writing" more Steve!

Scroll of Ressurection
I haven't blogged in a long time mostly because I'm such a bad writer and it take a really long time for me to write anything down. It took me hours to write about my strengths and weaknesses on a performance review at work. Maybe all the normal kids received some special training for writing about themselves when they were younger, but I was obviously left out.
I'm writing this post because I'm stuck in a place in life right now. I'm not in a terrible place compared to some people, but then I could be doing so much more. I'm a lazy person and I want to put in the minimum effort required to do stuff. There's a lot of stuff I'd like to do, and I really do hope I accomplish some of it soon.

I'd like to surround myself with more positive people. Friends who can and will support me towards accomplishing goals. Now where do I find these people...

The Phaal Challenge: Destroyer of Tastebuds
One of the things I love about living in New York is the large variety of food available to us, from bacon-wrapped hotdogs to sliced bull penis. It also happens to be home to Phaal, the "spiciest curry in New York".
The Brick Lane Curry House in Manhattan holds a Phaal Challenge: anyone who can finish the Phaal gets a certificate and a beer, as well as their photo posted up on their website. As a big fan of spicy food, this challenge had a certain allure to me, like how a moth is drawn to fire. I was determined to give it a try.
On the afternoon of Saturday, May 23, I was able to round up a small group of friends to bear witness to my attempts to best the Phaal. As an added bonus, I would not be alone in my suffering since one of them was going to attempt to take on this fiery foe as well.
The Phaal is a deceving dish. It comes in a metallic bowl with a side of rice. At first glance, it looks like a medium sized bowl of red curry, not even all too big. After a taking sniff, it smells harmless. And then I take the first bite: it feels like liquified fire. I instantly break out into sweat and turn red. My friend and I realize this might be harder than we thought, and slowly dig into our curry, one painful bite at a time.
About the time my friend gave up, about 1/3 of the way through her Phaal, I had already started losing feeling in my face. It was as if my body was sick of the pain and decided to do something about it by not letting me feel anything. My breathing at this point had also become labored and anyone watching me could not say I looked well. The certificate would not escape me, and I continued with the challenge one spoon at a time. When I worked my way to the bottom of the bowl, I gathered each curry soaked grain of rice into one final spoon. I endured this one last bite to immortalize me on the Phaal of Fame! (If I ever remember to send them my picture)
I sighed a breath of relief and slumped into my chair. By that last bite, I my forearms and teeth were numb as well. The waiter shook my hand and filled up a glass with my free beer, but I was too full to finish. I took my certificate and put it into my bag with pride. Our friends took home the uneaten Phaal, which became a brown congealed mass of pepper seeds. What they don't tell you, though, is that the challenge does not end there. You will engage the Phaal once again, the battlefield this time is not at the table but rather in the bathroom. I'll leave you with that.

My World... of Warcraft
I was first introduced to the land of Azeroth by my suitemates back when Burning Crusade was released. My chosen avatar to explore this whole new world was a Blood Elf Mage by the name of Tevesh. I had reached the max level and even did a little of raiding in Kara. But after farming for no apparent reason, I burned myself out and quit after two months.
Recently, I have returned to the WoW scene in full force, giving up countless hours of sleep in between working and spending time with the girlfriend. I raid with some good friends of mine from college in a guild aptly named "Addiction". We have a rather colorful roster of members to keep Ventrilo entertaining night after night. It also helps that they're mature enough to follow instructions (most of the time) so we can progress through content.
We've cleared a major milestone in 3.1 in defeating Yogg Saron. Soon enough, we'll be tackling hard modes and eventually Algalon, Drinker of Tears.

Mission Statement
I used to blog back when Xanga was "cool". Back then, I never had anything interesting to say and my writing ability was awful. Seven years later, I will attempt a comeback to blogging.
Hopefully I'll be able to write something insightful or entertaining from time to time. If I somehow learn to improve my writing just a little bit, then this exercise was worth it. Maybe someone will even learn something from me and if that happens, it'd be amazing. Enjoy!
